Thank you and everyone else who posted.
Will chalk paint work on veneer and laminate cabinets.
I plan on using chalk paint to do the cabinets.
It just scratched right off.
I see a piece i have my vision and i just want to get started.
Once the piece is nice and even i used the absolute key to getting this process to work zinsser bulls eye 1 2 3 primer spray.
This is a must have if you re trying to adhere any kind of paint to laminate.
Chalk paint is a great choice for painting laminate cabinets because it hides brush strokes.
However when it comes to laminate i have had great success in doing nothing.
Lori are you referring to cabinets that are wood veneer many are rather than shiny slick laminate.
The dos and don ts of painting laminate cabinets prime your laminate cabinets for the perfect paint job with these tips for surface preparation paint selection and application.
Choose your chalk paint colour here annie has used florence.
Use a paint brush to chalk paint any spots the roller couldn t reach.
I do find the chalk paint an advantage as it does adhere well and hardly any dripping.
This makes me so happy because regardless of whether you re a pro painter or a total beginner this won t impact the outcome of your project.
The laminate annie has used here is not too shiny and didn t require any preparatory sanding.
If you re using chalk paint for a project you pretty much can t mess it up.
Be careful of drips or paint build up.
So i decided to follow procedure to the t.
Chalk paint provides an excellent choice for finishing wood veneer furniture.
It gives the surface a little bit of a grip that will adhere to most any paint but works especially well for chalk paint.
That would make a difference in your prep and application but i personally would not paint cabinets with chalk paint for durability reasons.
A light sanding ensures the paint has a textured surface it can adhere to.
So follow along and i will tell you how to paint laminate and veneer.
That being said i do spend a lot of time filling sanding and doing light carpentry work on pieces to get them ready to paint.
Use the roller and or brush to apply chalk paint to the cabinet frames.
Label your cabinet doors and remove them and all their hardware.
Finish applying the chalk paint to the edges and backs if desired of the cabinet doors.
I ve painted veneer before yes with chalk paint and it didn t work very well.
You do not need to prime or prep the furniture and the chalk paint texture adds to the shabby chic look.
From what i read and for what you have posted adding extra coats of water based poly with seal them.
Just easily to work with.
